Ayodele Youth Program: Sesa Wo Suban
Sesa Wo Suban, Ayodele's Path to the Crown of Womanhood, is designed to assist young dancers in using creative expression to explore their identities and develop their self image. Students participating in our program learn the fundamentals of African music and dance, as well as build the personal development skills necessary to maintain themselves as fully functional individuals in society.
The program runs weekly on Saturdays from 11am - 2:30pm. Sessions are 10 weeks in Winter (October - December) and Spring (March - May). Summer session is 4 weeks.
Ages 3 - 7
Little ones learn spatial awareness, coordination, teamwork, self-confidence, and cultural identity through African dance, affirmations, and arts and crafts.
Ages 8 - 12
Princesses enhance spatial awareness, coordination, teamwork, self-confidence, and cultural identity through African dance choreography and song, drum lessons, African history and geography, and directed crafts.
Ages 13 - 19
Teen Queens participate in Rites of Passage; a six to eight week journey consisting of workshops and outings in music and dance, history, hygiene, health care, careers and job readiness, and life skills.
Face to Face
In December of 2021, we took nineteen young adults and chaperones on Project Face to Face, a two-week cultural exchange in Dakar, Senegal designed to stimulate the imagination of our youth. More than an artistic product or a study journey; it was the process of impacting a young person’s growth, intellectual nourishment, and future by broadening their horizons.
